Graduation x2
Freire Charter School is all about Graduation x 2: graduation not just from high school, but from college, too. The proven Freire model provides challenging, college-preparatory academics that help guarantee our students’ success at Freire Schools, in college, and beyond.
To achieve this goal, the Freire academic program is a challenging liberal arts program that encourages students to think critically and scientifically, communicate effectively, read and synthesize complex texts, and apply the skills and knowledge they acquire in the classroom to real-world situations.
Integrated and comprehensive academic and emotional supports help to ensure that our students are succeeding in school and developing the skills and knowledge they will need in college. Every Freire student has a dedicated Academic Advisor who supports academic growth by tracking academic progress, communicating with families in times of concern, and linking students to extra help, resources, and support. College Counselors help students plan for college, find the right school, and apply for scholarships and financial aid. Freire students also have access to daily after-school Academic Centers, where teachers and peers offer subject-specific tutoring and homework help.
Many students come to Freire Schools several grade levels behind in math and reading. With constant, individualized support, Freire students don’t just catch up—they begin to truly thrive.
COLLEGE BY THE NUMBERS
Freire High School’s graduating class of 2024 (83 graduates) earned over $7.9M in scholarships and financial aid offers for college.
100% of the Freire High School Class of 2024 were accepted to college.
Freire students beat local, state, and national averages year after year in their college persistence rates. In each graduating class, typically 89% to 92% of all of our first-year college freshmen return to college for their sophomore year. During COVID-19, we saw a slight decline to 81%, but this still far exceeds the national average of 69%. The Freire team is supporting students to stay on track during the unpredictability of this pandemic.
