Expectations

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

  • Arrive at Freire Charter School every day by 7:45 A.M. (Monday-Friday).
  • Remain at Freire Charter School up until 5:00 P.M. when necessary, and longer if you need extra academic work (Monday-Thursday.)  On Fridays, you’ll be dismissed by 3:00.
  • Make arrangements to attend Freire functions during times beyond the traditional school day, with little exception.
  • Complete Freire Summer Orientation, as well as the summer reading assignment.
  • Always work, think, and behave in the best way you know how, and do whatever it takes for you and your fellow students to learn.
  • Only be absent for excused reasons (sick, family emergency, legal issue, etc.) and call school to let the staff know.  Also, bring an official doctors note, court notice, etc.
  • Ask questions if you do not understand something.
  • Always make yourself available to your parents/guardians and school staff, and address any concerns they might have.
  • If you make a mistake, tell the truth and accept responsibility for your actions.
  • Always behave so as to protect the safety, interests, and rights of all individuals involved with Freire Charter School.
  • Always listen to all your fellow community members and give everyone your respect.
  • You are responsible for your own behavior, and will follow the staff’s directions.
  • Do whatever it takes to aim towards college.
  • Promise to solve differences in a peaceful manner and to treat others with respect at all times

PARENT/GUARDIAN EXPECTATIONS

  • Make sure your student arrives at Freire Charter School every day by 7:45 A.M. (Monday-Friday).
  • Make arrangements so your student can remain at Freire Charter School until 3:00 P.M., and longer if they need extra academic work. (Monday-Friday).
  • Make arrangements for your student to attend Freire functions beyond the traditional school day, with little exception.
  • Ask questions if you do not understand something.
  • Ensure that your student completes the Freire Summer Orientation.
  • Always help your student in the best way you know how and do whatever it takes for him/her to learn.

This means that you will

  • Attend Parent-Teacher-Student conferences two times per year, or whenever necessary.
  • Contact the teachers and staff if there is a concern.
  • Remain active in your student’s education.
  • Do whatever it takes to move your students towards college.
  • Read any and all papers that the school sends home to you
  • Always make yourself available to your student and the school, and address any concerns either may have.
  • Ensure that your student only misses school for excused reasons (sick, family emergency, legal issue, etc.).  If your student is going to miss school, you will call and notify the school as soon as possible.
  • Allow your child to go on Freire field trips and participate in other off-campus events.
  • Understand that your student must follow Freire Charter School rules and the Code of Conduct so as to protect the safety, interests, and rights of all individuals in our community. You, not the school, are responsible for the behavior and actions of your student.
  • Encourage and expect your student to solve conflicts only in a peaceful manner.

STAFF EXPECTATIONS

  • Arrive at Freire Charter School every day by 8:00 A.M. (Monday-Friday).
  • Remain at Freire Charter School, or your designated location, until your obligations are complete (Monday-Friday).
  • Make arrangements to attend Freire functions during times beyond the traditional school day, with little exception.
  • Ask questions if you do not understand something.
  • Always teach and/or work in the best way you know how and do whatever it takes for students to learn.
  • Always make yourself available to students and parents/families, and address any concerns they might have.
  • Always protect the safety, interests, and rights of all individuals involved with Freire Charter School
  • Do whatever it takes to move students towards college.
  • Promise to solve differences in a peaceful manner and to treat others with respect at all times
