On average, students spend seven hours a day in school. During that time, we at Freire act in loco parentis—Latin for “in place of a parent.” Trusted by you to take care of your child, we aim for your student to learn far beyond simply reading, writing, and arithmetic. We strive to teach your child skills that will make him or her a successful adult in this world—skills such as decision making, eating healthy, money management, and conflict resolution – to name just a few.
In order for Freire truly to be successful, both the school and the family must work together to reinforce our expectations. Seeking to strengthen the connection between home and school, Freire routinely communicates with parents and families. If your child is absent, you will receive a phone call from us. If your child is struggling, we will place them in mandatory tutoring. As a parent, you will also receive frequent progress reports from us to update you on your son or daughter’s academic standing.
Communication is not a one-way street, however. We expect that you will be actively communicating with us as well speaking with your son or daughter about what he or she is learning in school. The academic success of your child depends on it.
